Exploring Winnipeg – A Short Taxi or Rideshare Away

If you have some free time before or after the gathering, Winnipeg offers many opportunities to explore Métis history, Indigenous arts and culture, local restaurants, and community spaces.

Some places worth considering include:

  • Saint-Boniface: Winnipeg’s historic Francophone neighbourhood, with deep connections to Red River Métis history, including Saint-Boniface Cathedral and the Saint-Boniface Museum.
  • The Forks: A historic meeting place at the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, with restaurants, food vendors, shops, and walking paths.
  • Canadian Museum for Human Rights: Exhibitions exploring human rights in Canada and internationally.
  • Qaumajuq and the Winnipeg Art Gallery: A significant destination for Inuit art and contemporary exhibitions.
  • The Exchange District: Historic architecture, independent restaurants, cafés, galleries, and local shops.
  • Assiniboine Park and The Leaf: Gardens, green spaces, and indoor horticultural displays, as well as a restaurant, Gather.

For those interested in exploring Winnipeg’s food scene, neighbourhoods such as the Exchange District, downtown, and Osborne Village offer a variety of independent restaurants, cafés, and places to gather.

Most of these destinations can be reached by a relatively short taxi or rideshare trip from the Wyndham, depending on traffic and weather.
