Mission

Welcome to Nakataymiihtowiin

Welcome to the Nakataymiihtowiin website. We are honoured to share this space with you and invite you to learn more about our research, our team, and the communities that are helping guide this work.

Nakataymiihtowiin is a community-engaged research initiative that seeks to better understand the experiences, strengths, and wellness priorities of Métis people. Working in partnership with Métis communities, Knowledge Keepers, Elders, scholars, and community organizations, this project is grounded in the belief that research should be relational, respectful, and responsive to community needs.

Our approach recognizes that wellness is holistic. It extends beyond physical health to include emotional, mental, spiritual, cultural, family, and community well-being. By listening to the stories, experiences, and perspectives of Métis people, we hope to generate knowledge that contributes to stronger communities, informs future programs and services, and supports Métis-led approaches to wellness.

This website serves as a place to share information about the project, introduce our research team and Advisory Circle, provide opportunities to participate, and communicate our progress as the project unfolds. We are committed to transparency, reciprocity, and sharing knowledge in ways that are accessible and meaningful to community members. Thank you for visiting. We invite you to explore the website, learn more about the project, and follow along as we work together to support Métis wellness through community-centred research.

Based at institutions across Canada, the research group focuses on how Métis-specific spaces impact the health and wellness of Métis peoples.
